<image:caption>“‘The purpose of music making is learning about music, learning about ourselves and learning to give.’ –Michael Klinghoffer Having studied music for almost my entire life, I know the importance of the teachers and mentors I have had along the way. Through our study they not only gave me the technical tools to appreciate, love, and devote myself to music, but also modes of critical thought and emotional psychological tools which serve me in everything I do. I aim to offer my students some of the possibilities that my teachers gave me – tailored training in a high tradition of this craft, and participation in the world that music can offer -- an accompaniment which stays with one for a lifetime, whichever paths you take…!”</image:caption>

It's always up to the student to decide the reason for taking lessons, though I can offer my own suggestions and advice. Once both student and teacher say yes to this goal, they can work together as a team. What I enjoy most about teaching is the opportunity to learn from my students. I want to help them express how they experience the world, and their efforts surprise and inspire me.”</image:caption>

My piano lessons are fun and engaging which allows students to prosper as musicians after every lesson. l incorporate musicality and notation into our lessons and help students understand the piano as well as how to read music. I incorporate drama and voice together as they go hand in hand in terms of performance. <image:caption>“Music is the most amazing thing on earth- it’s pure magic in its best form, a unifying force that allows us to feel and express. It arouses and changes our brain to levels never known or felt before. We are all touched and can be healed by it no matter from what background we are coming from. In my teaching I help students experience and feel all those beautiful aspects of music for themselves. Having an extensive concert and teaching experience (over 23 years), I share my piano secrets with all my students - I closely work on their piano technique, build a solid foundation which allows every student to be technique-worry-free and allows them to express their inner feelings with sounds and colors from the very beginning of their studies. Learning music is an absolute pleasure, delight and the greatest fun and nothing can be compared to it! It can be only felt by each person individually.”</image:caption>

I love music and I am passionate about sharing it with students of all ages. I believe music could add so much to a child's confidence, personality and cognitive skills. I had some incredible mentors growing up, who empowered me to explore my own likes and dislikes, abilities and roadblocks, and I am proud to continue on that path. Because of my training in both musical theatre and classical voice, I provide a well-rounded and holistic lesson experience that incorporates body awareness, text expression and of course, good technique. My philosophy is based in a holistic, integrative approach to music and singing: self-awareness of the mind and body, musicianship, technique, musicality, and expression, which motivates and challenges the student to learn and grow in a multitude of ways. Singing is such a unique, personal event, and in this way, it is an honor and privilege to guide students through the process of discovering and honing their individual gifts. In combination with providing a solid musical education, I work with each student according to his or her needs and desires. The goal of each lesson is to build discipline, learn something new and exciting, enjoy the process of music-making, and instill a deep appreciation for the arts. It is always my hope that as students become increasingly proficient at the piano, the struggle and discipline of learning and mastery gradually give way to the joy and pleasure that comes from the ability to express oneself artistically, technically and creatively. Although my own experiences have been focused on classical training and technique, I understand that success in music appreciation is an individual experience that needs to be tailored to each student. Through collaboration with musicians of jazz, pop, honky-tonk, and blues backgrounds, I have deepened my understanding of genres beyond classical. I am trained in Opera, Musical Theatre, and Jazz, which makes me an extremely versatile and well-rounded teacher. This enables me to help my students with any style they desire to learn more about, allowing them to cross between multiple genres of music to become a truly multitalented artist. I also incorporate and draw upon the importance of the Alexander Technique in my lessons to build a strong foundation of breath support and connection within one’s body. Acting is also of upmost importance, and I love breaking down the text with my students to discover many new and exciting moments together. <image:caption>"Teaching has been a lifelong passion of mine, something I remember wanting to be since the first grade. I have found most enjoyment in private piano or voice teaching where I feel I am able to really tailor my teaching to each individual student. By learning how each student communicates best, I can really reach each one where they are and grow from there. One of my main focuses with students is building a solid technique, first and foremost. I enjoy working with a great variety of musical genres, and providing solid, classical technique can help any voice sing or any instrument play any type of music they desire. Choosing the repertoire students work on in lessons is very much a team effort. If a student doesn't like what they're singing or playing, they're not going to practice. So it is imperative that the student enjoys the music they are working on, for the most growth comes from practicing."</image:caption>

<image:caption>“A core element of my pedagogy is teaching not only from a technical perspective, but also from a theoretical and expressive one. I believe that teaching students to internalize melodies and harmonies early in their musical training deepens their ability to hear and perform. Students studying classical repertoire with me receive a practice checklist at the end of each lesson with a summary of topics covered during the session and list of etudes and exercises to isolate specific technical issues. This goal-oriented approach is rooted in my belief that carefully structuring practice sessions is at the core of cultivating progress. If a student is interested in improvisation, jazz, or pop music, I offer in-depth instruction about creative violin techniques like playing over chord changes, chopping, and other percussive tools.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>mentors</image:title>
<image:caption>“Whether dealing with classical music or rock, the student must be required to formulate an objective on as regular a basis as possible. I call this Goal Oriented Practice. Rather than telling someone to practice for a given amount of time, a decision must be made by the student, with the aid of the teacher, as to what needs to be accomplished. Making the student create their own goal shifts the responsibility in their direction and brings us closer to the creation of a true artist. Teaching classical music promotes an awareness that can't be found anywhere else. There is certainly a place for popular art, and it is not in short supply. Exposing children and adults to our music may be their only access to art that is not trying to sell them something. If they go far enough, they will find music that is independent of association and stands on its own merit. When a student is not only exposed to this concept, but puts it into action, the teacher has promoted the ability to think independently.”</image:caption>

Whether my students are pianists, violinists, or vocalists, experience playing drums improve rhythmical skills which are one of three essential components, along with melody and harmony, of playing music. I love meeting new people and learning about them - where they come from, what they like and dislike. It is a joy to see the spark of confidence when a technical challenge is overcome or a new idea becomes solidified. My primary goals with students at any level are to build confidence, explore new ideas, discover technical potential, and find a lifelong love of music. In my studio, I strive to bring these goals to life by making lessons a safe space for students to explore their own unique abilities without fear of judgement. I believe that students grow most with equal emphasis on achieving a healthy technical baseline and fostering the discovery of their own unique musical voice."</image:caption>

Then I got up on stage, and that went right out the window! I fell hopelessly in love with singing and performing. Funny enough, opera and musical theater also offered me the chance to read, learn, and share. Being a performer is a profoundly satisfying experience for me, one which I am grateful for every time I step on stage. I was inspired to begin teaching after taking a pedagogy class during my master’s degree program. As a performer, we sometimes go long stretches without actually performing - but as a teacher, I can share my love of music with my students every week! In my experience, a successful teacher is someone who speaks the language of his or her students; I have a knack for recognizing how each student best absorbs information and adjusting my teaching style accordingly. I’ve found that lessons are most successful in a safe space where creativity, exploration, and critical thinking are encouraged. I believe everyone can make music, and that the process of learning and growing as a musician can be deeply enriching and rewarding on many different levels. I believe music, especially singing, has the power to change the world: singing helps us tell stories, which in turn help us connect with each other. Giving students the tools with which to express themselves is a responsibility I approach seriously, and with joy!"</image:caption>

Every child I teach has a story and it’s my job to help them grow, develop and learn through the basic and humanistic foundation that is music literacy. It does not matter if the student is young or old, new or advanced, taking lessons for fun creativity or because the student wants to be a professional pianist in the future. The student will always receive the best quality of teaching, and very importantly, will have fun throughout the process of making and learning music.”</image:caption>

We can work on lessons where voice/ piano or violin can be combined at will and be mutually inclusive on their learning process. I love keeping an interesting way of learning including games, songs, improvisation and exercises that help a global musical growth, creativity, discipline, self-awareness and posture consciousness.”</image:caption>

Although we might have a plan and goals we are working towards, I try to get there in a natural way while not forcing the material on the student and creatively seeking an engaging path for both of us to take together. If they have fun, I have fun, it's as simple as that. My methods of teaching are to try to analyze what need improvement and then create exercises around those needs. I feel immensely grateful for the exposure to and involvement in classical music, and I strive to bring that excitement and vitality to every lesson I teach. It is a great gift to be able to share music with young people; to teach them the discipline, focus, and commitment it requires, and I truly believe every child's development is greatly enhanced by his/her encounter with classical music. Expanding into the world of theatre, my unique experience as a pianist offers valuable insight on what it is to be a performer and to be comfortable working on stage. My love of acting and passion for the craft makes me a very engaged teacher (and student) of the theatre, and I have integrated many different approaches into my style of teaching. I encourage young people of all levels and ages to engage in theatrical training in order to hone their performing skills, public presentation, sense of wonder, curiosity, and 'play'."</image:caption>

Having been through several musical conservatories, I make sure all my students are introduced to composition, theory, jazz and world music within their first year. My approach encompasses combining technical exercises and stylistic technique alongside popular and standard repertoire of the student’s choosing. Most importantly, I try to instill a love and passion for music regardless of level or perceived talent. I believe we all have the ability to nurture our inner artist through musical expression."</image:caption>
